Perceived Gender Similarities and Differences Among Carnegie Mellon Computer Science Seniors
http://women.cs.cmu.edu

Brief description: This study will be part of an ongoing line of investigation into the culture of computing among computer science undergraduate students at Carnegie Mellon. This work began with the longitudinal, intensive studies of Jane Margolis and Alan Fisher (1994-99), and has continued with the 2002 and 2004 Seniors’ Interview projects conducted by Carol Frieze and Lenore Blum. We are particularly interested in assessing the changes that have evolved in what appears to be a more balanced environment: more balanced in terms of gender, more balanced in terms of the breadth of student interests, and more balanced in terms of professional experiences afforded all students.

REU logistics: Teams consisting of all women, or all underrepresented minorities, especially students interested in doing a senior thesis project or independent study, are especially encouraged to apply.

Schedule: Academic year 2004-2005

Number of undergraduate positions: 2

Supported by: CRA (the Computing Research Association)
