Research Experience for Undergraduates Programs

Cognitive Robotics on the Sony AIBO
http://Tekkotsu.org

Brief description: We are drawing on ideas from cognitive science to create a set of high level primitives for intelligent robot programming. These primitives are in the areas of vision, mapping, manipulation, control, and human-robot interaction. The primitives are being integrated into Tekkotsu, an open source application development framework for the Sony AIBO robot dog. "Tekkotsu", which means "framework" in Japanese, is the platform for a new course in Cognitive Robotics that will debut in Spring 2006.

REU logistics: students interested in doing a senior thesis project are especially encouraged to apply. It may also be possible to get REU funding through a project jointly supervised with another faculty member.

Supported by: CRA (the Computing Research Association) is funding a team of two undergraduates during 2004-2005 to do a human-robot interaction project using Tekkotsu.
