Individual Advising

“More than numbers and code” is more than just a catch phrase for the School of Computer Science (SCS); it also reflects the unique educational possibilities for each and every student. SCS has a small set of faculty dedicated to individually advising our undergraduate students and understanding the personality of the class as a whole. They also know the curriculum and the university requirements inside and out.

A freshman advisor will begin working with you and your classmates once you have been admitted—guiding you through the required SCS paperwork and placement testing, assisting in the scheduling process and making sure you are prepared to engage in your courses when you arrive.

In April of your freshman year, your entire class will transition to an upper-class advisor who will continue to guide you through to graduation. This unique advising structure offers students the opportunity for a continuum of meaningful discussions with a dedicated and informed advisor who understands their evolving academic goals and personal interests. If you choose to pursue research activities, you’ll have additional opportunities to be advised by our world-class faculty and to learn first-hand about their research interests.
