Von Ahn Among Four CMU Alumni Named “Fast Trackers”

Luis von Ahn, associate professor of computer science and a 2005 PhD alumnus, is among four Carnegie Mellon University alumni included in this year’s Fast Tracker Awards, sponsored by the Pittsburgh Business Times.

Each year, the business newspaper honors a distinguished group of outstanding next-generation organizational leaders from the Pittsburgh region. The June 25 awards ceremony and reception, at the Andy Warhol Museum on Pittsburgh’s North Side, honored 40 business, government and non-profit leaders who are less than 40 years of age.

In addition to von Ahn, noted for his new Duolingo.com website that teaches people foreign languages and his work on CAPTCHAs, the honorees included three MBA alumni from the Tepper School of Business:

  • Ted Curran, executive director of finance for the Tepper School.
  • Steve Fleck, president and CEO of Proximedics, a company that integrates RFID functionality into healthcare products.
  • Bill McIntosh, founder and president of Synergy Media Group, an audiovisual design and installation company.
