Senate Resolution Recognizes Randy Pausch's Contributions to Cancer Awareness

Randy Pausch'srole in increasing public support for pancreatic cancer research was cited in aU.S. Senate resolution introduced November 19 by Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., andSen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, and co-sponsored by Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa.

Pausch's "LastLecture" and advocacy "gave a voice to victims of pancreatic cancer andinspired people to live life to the fullest," according to the resolutionrecognizing November as Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. Pancreatic cancer isthe fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States.

Speaking on theSenate floor, Casey said Pausch "lived life to the fullest in every sense ofthat word, in every sense of that phrase. ...While his life was cut short bypancreatic cancer, his legacy for living is one we should all cherish."

Pittsburgh, Mayor LukeRavenstahl proclaimed November 19 as "Randy Pausch Memorial Day." The cityhonored Pausch on the same day last year.
