Alumni
       e-Zine

February 2002

Welcome CS alumni!

I am pleased to welcome you to the first edition of the SCS alumni e-Zine. I hope the e-Zine will be an effective way to increased communication with SCS alumni. The e-Zine will contain feature stories on groundbreaking research and first-hand information about the School of Computer Science alumni activities and services. Our ability to communicate directly with you, our alumni, will be key to building a successful alumni relations program. My goal is to produce an e-Zine that will keep SCS alumni informed and encourage increased alumni involvement with SCS and Carnegie Mellon.

Several new programs and initiatives will begin to take shape as we work to build a stronger and more active alumni community. These programs include a volunteer network, mentorship program, network opportunities and career resources. More will be written about these programs in the future. More alumni events will be held around the country. Over the next year we will also continue to expand and improve the SCS alumni website.

One way we've started to build this community is through the formation of the SCS Young Alumni Advisory Council (YAAC). The YAAC will help evaluate current initiatives in the School as well as provide ideas and feedback about new programs. To help SCS alumni reconnect with classmates, we've created an SCS alumni directory. We also want to hear from you! SCS alumnus Jonathan Betz encourages alumni to send in their class notes. (see Call for Class Notes).

It will take time to build the program, but with your help, I know we can create mutually beneficial programs and services as well as support the continued excellence of the School of Computer Science. I hope you enjoy reading about the latest developments in the School of Computer Science.

I welcome any feedback and suggestions concerning the SCS alumni relations program or alumni e-Zine. Please send your suggestions by e-mail to tcarr@cs.cmu.edu. I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes for a great year!

Sincerely,

Tina M. Carr
