RECENT EVENTS

GSIA/SCS Alumni Entrepreneurship Panel held April 4 in Palo Alto
A joint GSIA/SCS alumni panel titled "Entrepreneurship 2002—What’s Hot? What’s Not? And What’s the Climate for Venture Investment?" was held at the Hewlett-Packard Conference Center in Palo Alto, Calif. on April 4. The panel featured Dr. S. Thomas Emerson, Director, Donald H.Jones Center for Entrepreneurship and alumni from GSIA and SCS.

Alumni panel members included

  • Jim Levy (GSIA 1966, Chairman, Park Lane Ventures; Director, Vertex
    Ventures
  • Jim Swartz (GSIA1966, Managing Partner of Accel Partners)
  • Monte Zweben (CS1985, President/CEO of Blue Martini Software,
    Inc.)

Over 100 alumni in the bay area attend the event sponsored by the San Francisco Bay Area GSIA Alumni Chapter.

SCS Young Alumni Advisory Council Spring Meeting, April 19
The spring meeting of the SCS Young Alumni Advisory Council took place April 19 at Carnegie Mellon. The council under the guidance of SCS Alumni Relations Director Tina Carr continued to focus developing and implementing initiatives to help facilitate the smooth transition of students into the SCS alumni community before and after graduation. SCS welcomes 267 new members to the alumni community during Commencement!
Congratulations and welcome go to the 267 new members of the SCS alumni community! The School of Computer Science commencement was held on a very chilly and rainy Sunday at Carnegie Music Hall. The SCS Class of 2002 of 267 graduates included 34 Ph.D.s, 74 Masters, and 159 Bachelor's recipients. The SCS ceremonies and festivities included numerous faculty and staff. 67 University Honors and 16 SCS College Honors recipients marched in the ranks of this impressive class. We're proud to be able to call them SCS alums!
