Lee Weiss was the first student in the Robotics Institute of Carnegie Mellon University. In the early years of the Institute, which was founded in 1979, his research focused on robotic visual servo control, flexible manufacturing systems, and micro-electrical mechanical systems (MEMS). He then went on to develop numerous systems for solid freeform fabrication and rapid prototyping. He currently conduct interdisciplinary research in tissue engineering and chemical and biological sensing.
Over the last 30 years he has also sought to apply his diverse background to create technology-based solutions to challenging problems in health care delivery, including fetal heart monitoring, cardiac pacing, angioplasty, MEMS-based drug delivery, tissue regeneration, and computer-aided surgery.
He holds 25 issued U.S. patents, 7 pending patents, and has over 115 peer-reviewed publications. (Publications On-Line ) |
