Faculty Positions
Department of Computer & Information Sciences
Temple University

The Department of Computer & Information Sciences has one visiting
position beginning August 1996, and one tenure-track position
beginning in August 1997 in the area of Information Systems. Ideally,
the faculty member filling the visiting position would have those
qualities that would make him/her eligible for consideration for the
tenure-track position beginning in Fall 1997.

Applicants should hold the Ph.D. in Information Systems or a closely-
related field. The ability to contribute to strong instructional
programs, both at the graduate and undergraduate level,
while contributing to a growing research program, will be the
primary basis for selection of candidates. Salary and rank will be
determined by the appointee's experience. While applicants at the
Assistant Professor level are preferred and should present evidence
of research potential, applicants for a senior position may be considered
and should have a strong record of scholarly achievement.

The Department offers programs leading to the Bachelors and Masters
degrees in Information Systems through the School of Business & Management
and in Computer Science through the College of Arts & Sciences. The newly
restructured Ph.D. in Computer & Information Sciences provides exciting
opportunities for faculty to participate in a truly multidisciplinary
program. Doctoral students with masters-level background in information
systems or computer science customize their advanced curriculum in
consultation with their dissertation committee. The Ph.D. has three
tracks: Information Systems, Software Systems, and Artificial Intel-
ligence. Candidates should have a strong applied knowledge of tech-
nology along with a background in information systems development so
that they can contribute to multiple tracks.

Currently, the department has a full-time faculty of 20; there are 136
graduate students enrolled in the masters and doctoral programs, and 358
undergraduate majors. Faculty members have access to excellent technical
resources. All offices are equipped with a choice of computing equipment
including dedicated local and wide area connectivity. The department
provides Pentium-based PC, Sun, and Dec Alpha-based labs to students. The
university also provides public access labs all across campus and is
currently in the process of investing significant resources into
computing and networking.
