            The Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied

          The State University of New York at Binghamton invites applications
          for a tenure-track position, at the level of Assistant Professor, in the
          Department of Computer Science beginning August, 1997. Salary is
          competitive. Preferred areas of specialization are parallel
          processing/computer architecture and distributed systems/networks.
          Applicants must have fulfilled all requirements for the Ph.D. in
          Computer Science by the time of appointment. Strong evidence of
          research capabilities and commitment to teaching are essential. 

          The Department has well established Ph.D. and M.S. programs, and
          an accredited B.S. program. Local high technology
          computer-oriented companies such as IBM, Lockheed-Martin,
          Hughes Training, and Universal Instruments provide opportunities for
          industrial collaboration. Industry supported centers within the Watson
          School include the Center for Computing Technologies, the
          Integrated Electronics Engineering Center, and the Center for
          Intelligent Systems. The University is nationally recognized for its
          strong academic programs and is located in the scenic southern tier
          region of the state.
