Computer Science Department


Applications are now being accepted for up to three tenure-track
positions anticipated in the Computer Science Department beginning
August 1997.  All positions available are at the Assistant Professor
level, but other ranks will be considered.  Preference will be given to
candidates that demonstrate a broad Computer Science background. 
Applications will be accepted for qulaified Master's degree holders, but
preference will be given to applicants who have obtained a Ph.D. in
Computer Science or a closely related field.

One of the positions requires emphasis in the areas of Operating Systems
and/or Computer Architecture.  Teaching Assignments for this position
include courses in Introductory Computer Architecture, C++ Programming,
Systems Programming, Operating Systems, and Advanced Computer
Architecture.  Opportunity exists for growth into other areas, including
Computer Graphics and Networking.  Experience with Unix is essential. 
Non-teaching responsibilities will include system administration duties
in the departmental laboratory which contains Unix workstations and
PC's.  

The other two positions require a broad Computer Science background. 
Teaching assignments for these positions include courses in Software
Engineering, Computer Graphics and Networking, as well as Computer
Science core courses and various service courses.  Opportunity exists
for growth into other areas, including relevant topics in computer
science and multimedia technology.

In accordance with the mission of UPJ, computer science faculty are
expected to maintain high quality teaching and student advising, to
continue to develop professionally, to become involved in campus
affairs, and to show initiative in supporting undergraduate student
projects in such areas as expert systems, data base systems, and
advanced software engineering.
