Computer Science Faculty Position

The Computer Science Department at Harvey Mudd College may be able to hire a
tenure-track Assistant Professor of Computer Science, to start in August 1997
or 1998, subject to pending institutional approval.  While applicants are
invited from all areas of computer science, applicants teaching and doing
research in one or more of the following are preferred: artificial
intelligence, distributed systems and algorithms, and performance modeling.
The successful candidate will have completed the PhD in Computer Science by the
time of appointment, and is expected to devote attention to excellence in
teaching, as well as to the development of a research program.  Applications
from women and underrepresented minorities are strongly encouraged.

Harvey Mudd College is a highly-selective undergraduate college (630 students)
oriented toward science, mathematics, and engineering.  It is a member of the
Claremont Colleges consortium which includes Pomona College, Scripps College,
Pitzer College, Claremont-McKenna College, and the Claremont Graduate School.
Departmental facilities include multiprocessor Sun UltraSparc file- and
compute- servers, SGI workstations, PCs, Macintoshes, and high-speed
networking.  The department's Computer Science Clinic provides a strong link to
the industrial community in the form of year-long student projects and the
successful applicant is expected to become an active participant.  The usual
teaching load is two courses per semester, plus supervision of a clinic
project.

Claremont is a pleasant suburban community in eastern Los Angeles county, about
a 25-minute drive from either Pasadena or Anaheim, with easy access to Los
Angeles and other points of interest.  Outdoor recreation includes beaches and
the mountains of the San Gabriel range.
