Shopping System

January - May 1996.

At this time, Industry.Net had a number of catalogs containing information on products sold by various distributors. The next step was to permit online purchasing of these products. At this time, there were no integrated purchasing solutions, so I designed and developed a simple shopping system and then incrementally improved it based upon consultation with clients as to their needs.

The system was built in Oraperl, and used Oracle as a repository. The underlying architecture was intentionally designed to be very flexible and versatile, to accommodate changing requirements. A lot of thought was given to the user-interface, and I worked with an outside consultant to polish the UI.

I built the shopping system as a throw-away prototype, but, to my surprise, it was used for over an year. A replacement for it was being built when Nets filed for bankruptcy.
