Hobbies: Fencing, horseback riding. Marten is an accomplished dancer, although he has not done so since the death of his wife.

History: Born and raised in the gentle green hills of central England, Marten as a boy was known as both a loyal freind and a just enemy. Although he was, at most times, even-tempered and fair, he did, as boys do, get into the occasional fist fight with his peers.

As did his friends, Marten attended a Catholic-run boarding school until he left to attend Cambridge University. It was at Cambridge that he met the woman who would, several years later, become his wife, Lauren Hopkins.

Their first and only child, Elizabeth, was born when Marten was twenty-six years of age. However, due to Marten's assignment as a pyschologist at the Diphidia penal colony, he rarely got to see his daughter for the first few years of her life.

Tragedy struck when, after a number of happy years as a close-knit, loving family, the trio decided to take a holiday. Marten, who was then working for the Starfleet JAG office, was held back a few days by one of the cases he was working on. He arrived at their chosen destination, however, to discover that the ship his wife and daughter had been travelling on had never made it to the planet; instead, it had been attacked enroute by a pirate vessel operating in the locale.

A few sporadic, desperate messages were recieved from the unfortunate ship; and then, silence.

Later investigation revealed also the unscheduled presence of four Romulan freighters amongst the crowds thronging to and from the planet-- what role they had in the ship's dissappearance is unknown, although the Romulans are still the main suspects in the crime.
