World Weavers Awards 1998
This past Labor Day weekend saw the first
World
Weavers award presentation in a long time,
and the first ever to be done live, in person. Those members who were
able to attend the WW mini-con at
ConFluence,
in Mars, PA, received their certificates before an audience of their
peers, and gave a brief speech indicating what had led up to the
award being presented.
Due to the given infallibilty of the human body and
brain, there may be some errors in this document. Please notify Brian
Davidson or myself in the event of an error and we'll do our best to
fix it for you.
Some units of
World
Weavers are unfortunately not represented in
this document, mainly due to a bit of disorganization on our part and
the sheer scariness of the volume of posts to go through. Remember,
everyone, next year's awards will cover all posts from July 1998 to
the end of May 1999, so write 'em down as you read 'em, and start
thinkin' now!

Special Thanks:
- To Mike Eckardt and Mike Shelton for their great
work on the DL maps.
- To Susan Rati (DragonLands), Gwen Brophy
(Steele), Dan Kelleher (Ragnarok), Chris Ackney (Amber), Jason Kee
(Eclipse), Louise Koester (Middleshire), Jon Ratcliff (Dark
Destiny), Mia Sherman (Cyberpunk/Fabio) and Scott Huckaby
(Nightfall) for creating and/or running new worlds and in so
doing, helping to broaden the scope of WW and provide more
opportunities for writers.
- To Jason Wellman (Steele) for his outstanding
work in not only keeping Steele running during difficult times,
but also in rebuilding it from scratch when all of the source
materials were lost.
- To Lea Harris (Orientation and FAQ Keeper), Mia
Sherman and Kris Gant (Roster Keepers), for their hard work and
assistance with the paperwork that keeps us going.
- To Renee Lewis-Grothe, for her fine work on the
World Weavers Master Website, which gives us much improved
visibility and helps us to spread the word about WW.
- To Jack Gerber, Judi Marko, and Linda Pfeiffer,
for all of their outstanding efforts in getting World Weavers
established on the Internet. We would not be where and what we are
now, without you.
- To Craig Evans and Spence Hodges, for their
extreme long-term dedication to the club. You set a fine example
of what devotion is all about.
- To Connie Gerber, for recognition of past efforts
in keeping WW the friendly and warm place it is and has been.
Because of you, we're much more than just a writing group.
- To Kurt Nelson, Lesley Moore, Alton Reich, Craig
Evans and Bess Stocking, for consistently outstanding quality in
writing. You show us every day the ideals to which we can all
aspire as writers.
- To Gwen Brophy, Elton Hughes, Jack and Connie
Gerber, and Jeff Finocchiaro, the "We Miss You" award. The club is
much the poorer for your absence.
and finally,
- To Lynette Cowper, Susan Rati and Kat Robertson,
for always being there with a shoulder to cry on, an ear to bend,
and a smile for encouragement. My job is made infinitely easier to
bear because of you.
Congratulations to all of our award
winners! This list will be posted on the WW Web site, as well as on
the alt.shared-reality.sf-and-fantasy newsgroup, and E-mailed to all
players.
Although there were quite a few awards, there could
easily have been more. I hope to have things better organized for
next year, so that more units and players will be able to respond in
time.
