Yolanda was a beautician before war came to her home planet of
Esthetica. she joined the civil service after the planet was
plastered by an asteroid launched by the Cardassiens. While in that
service, she learned many skills, including emergency medicine and how
to repair and maintain heavy construction equipment.
Just as things on the planet started to normalize again (no aid
from the Feds, as they were busy in a war), the Ferengi began sporadic
raids. Yolanda was part of a team of engineers which refurbished a
Bird of Prey which had been captured from the raiders, but this ship
dissapeared on its first mission. She transferred to the Civil Defense
Force where she learned many various combat skills. She was part of a
team which captured a ram-shackle old space freighter, which was later
repaired and used to haul needed medical and construction supplies
from nearby Federation worlds.
With the end of the war, additional aid from the Federation helped
put the planet together, but most of the work must be done by locals,
as many planets were ravaged in the war and aid workers were spread
thin. Yolanda became something of a leader among the Estheticans, but
she had no stomach for politics; now that the "real work" is done, and
having achieved too much fame to return to being a beautician, she
decided to join Star Fleet. Her military and technical experience
allowed her to forgo the Academy.
When she was assigned to the USS Olympic (NCC-0100) as CEO, that
ship had recently received significant battle damage and was making
it's way back home. Unable to rendezvous, she programmed a holodeck
with the damage reports from the Olympic to study the damage and plan
repairs. She expedited repairs by having repair crews and replacement
parts standing by when the Olympic did make port.
With the disappearance of the Olympic, she was re-assigned to the
Oberon, as CEO with which she was instrumental in retrieving the 300
year-old starship, USS Bonaventure.
After several years of service on the Oberon, she was promoted to
the job of First Officer. While on an away mission to a primitive planet,
her team encountered the entity Prism collecting biological samples in
preparation for conquest of the planet by Prism's creators. The away team
was attacked, and in the struggle Yolanda Tabak and Iona Zinoviev were
struck by a weapon that reduced their biological age by an estimated 16
years. Due to odd temporal effects of the region, Yolanda and Iona spent a
total of twelve subjective years on the planet, though only half an hour
passed for the Oberon in orbit. Upon return to the Oberon, Yolanda felt
that she had "lost her edge" during her subjective 12 years on the
mission, and no longer felt capable of serving in the post of First
Officer of a Star Ship. Upon the Oberon's return to Earth following the
mission, she was transfered to Star Fleet Academy, to become an
instructor.
Medical Profile: Yolanda Tabak is in excellent physical health for her
age, however she has a matrix of scars on her back which she refuses
to discuss. Also, gynecological exam indicates that she has given
birth, another subject that she refuses to discuss. In an encounter
with the entity Prism, Yolanda Tabak and Iona Zinoviev were reduced in
age by 16 years.
Psychological Profile: Ms. Tabak is extremely intelligent, though her
education is ...erratic. She was content to remain the owner-manager
of a beauty salon on her home world, until the asteroid strike
decimated the population of that planet. Her fiance was killed in the
strike, the child she later bore him died two months after birth due to
complications arising from malnutrition. During the years following, she
drove herself hard, trying to prevent the similar tragedies among her
people. She had to learn many things in order to do this, but because
the educational system had collapsed on her world, she had to do it on
her own. She has developed an astounding ability to ferret out facts
from computer databases. She was once captured by a group of raiders
on her world, but somehow escaped. The years following the asteroid
strike on her world are very traumatic for her, and she represses them
as best she can. When under stress, she will remember the "good
times," when she was a simple beautician. While further counselling
is advised to help her deal with the repressed memories of her fiance
and child, she is fit for duty. Indeed, removing her from duty might
even adversely effect her health, as she needs to feel that she is

Addendum: Yolanda Tabak has an inferiority complex, as indicated by
her constant desire to wear 3 inch heels on her foot gear. I have ordered
her to wear flat shoes, in the hopes that she will see that others will

Addendum to Medical Profile: Commander Tabak has a minor deformation in
the bones of her feet, which causes a mild pain when she wears flat shoes.
I have prescribed that she wear at least 2" heels as much as possible.
