In the interests of easy on-line reading, the raw Gutenberg etext has been modified more than usual. In particular, references to page numbers and internal drawings have been freely removed, and the chapters numbers have been added to the table of contents. Purists are invited to refer instead to the original Gutenberg etext, referenced above.
