In Pittsburgh, you can get more accordion-related information (esp. button accordion) by contacting Calliope, the Pittsburgh Folk Music Society, at (412) 687-8800 or at CalliopePA@aol.com. They sponsor accordion-related musical events, have various classes, and offer musical recordings.

Regular events:

  • Irish Ce'ile. Every Tuesday, 8-10pm, 7:45 pm instructions. Mullaney's Harp and Fiddle, Penn & 24th, Strip District, 421-8755.
  • There is now a Pittsburgh Country & Classic Blues Society. Call them at 687-8800 to find out more. They meet the 3rd Thursday (except December) and the first and 3rd Mondays 8-10 pm, at the Lawrenceville Branch of Carnegie Library. Come & jam!
  • Thursday nights there is an old-time music jam at The Pour House on Main Street in Carnegie. On the go by 9pm, they play till 2. You can often find accordion players here (though they may be disguised as banjo players).
  • There is an Irish jam session at Mullaney's Harp and Fiddle on the first and third Sunday of the month from 4-7. Usually at least one concertina can be found there.
