Robert Holdstock,
Lavondyss

Lavondyss is a sequel to Mythago Wood, but they're supposed to be stand-alone. Strongly recommended by several people, this book follows a girl named Tallis from childhood to young adulthood. I find myself saying "a girl" rather than "a young woman" because the first half of the book is the part that stays with me, with its evocation of a child's imaginative world. The second half, set in the world of Ryhope Wood, largely passed me by (though I did like the plant imagery). If your archetypes run more than mine towards frigid Neolithic grue, you may do better with this.
