Georgia State University is located in Atlanta, which as a mild, sunbelt climate. It is a center of commerce, industry, transportation and cultural activities in the Southeast, offering good employment oppourtunities in many professional areas. Many cultural activities center around the Robert W. Woodruff Arts Center, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, The Atlanta Ballet and The High Museum of Art. The population of the metropolitan area has grown steadily to more than three million, and the cost of living is one of the lowest among major US metropolitan areas. The area includes excellent systems of elementary and secondary schools and a large supply of moderately priced homes.
Georgia State University has a student body of approximately 24,000 persons and consists of five colleges and one school. It is the second largest state supported institution of the University System of Georgia, which is composed of 34 institutions and is governed by the Board of Regents.
