DANTE NOW ON SALE FOR $69...The Early Spring 1998 Discovery Channel Catalog features the Volcanic Crawler. "Modeled after NASA's volcanic explorer, DANTE, this Robotix vehicle looks remarkably like the real thing! Powered by 2 high-speed motors, it can walk spider-like through even the most treacherous terrain. Best of all, your child can build it, piece by piece, with the interchangeable connecting parts. Ages 7 and up. Requires 4 "C" batteries (not included)." A Dante in every home :-) IN THE (ALUMNI) NEWS..."Science's Dream Team" appeared in the December 22 issue of the Los Angeles Times, making note of Kevin Knight (CS'91), "another ISI project leader [who] demonstrated his prototype for an automatic language translation machine. The desktop device looks like a photocopier, except that a document...placed face-down in Japanese characters will generate a new document in English instead of an exact copy." The demo was part of USC/ISI's 25th anniversary celebration. Copies are available from scstoday@cs.
