This talk will describe the basic activities of Axicon Technologies, Inc. and particularly its involvement in the development of the Segway Human Transporter. Axicon Technologies, Inc. ( is a technology-driven provider of leading-edge gear and powertrain solutions. Truly a "one-stop shop," Axicon provides a full range of design, development, and production services for a wide range of mechanical power transmission applications.

In 1999, Axicon began working with Deka Research and Development Corp. on the development of a transmission for the Segway HT. Axicon led the effort to design and prototype a quiet, high-efficiency gearbox. Today, Axicon is the sole supplier of transmissions for the Segway HT. The presentation will include a demonstration of the Segway HT.

Speaker Biographies

David Lassman has a BSE in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University and an MBA from Harvard University. He has worked for manufacturing companies in the automotive, electronics and aerospace industries and is currently Vice President of Engineering and Operations at Axicon Technologies Inc., a designer and producer of custom drivetrains.

Charles Amurgis has a BSME from the University of Pittsburgh and an MSE from Purdue University. He has worked for General Motors' Noise and Vibration Center of Expertise in Milford, MI and is currently Manager of Testing Services at Axicon Technologies Inc.
