RI Seminar -- C. S. George Lee

ABSTRACT

This talk consists of two parts. First, a general connectionist neural-network model for fuzzy logic control and decision systems (NN-FLCS) will be presented. The network structure and the associated learning algorithms will be addressed. Computer simulation examples will be presented to illustrate the performance and applicability of the proposed connectionist model with neural learning. Next, objectives, course contents and format of an NSF-sponsored robotics teaching lab will be discussed. A video tape which captures some of our research and teaching lab development will be shown.

BIOGRAPHY

C. S. George Lee received the PhD degree from Purdue University in 1978. In 1978-1979, he taught at Purdue University, and in 1979-1985, at the University of Michigan. Since 1985, he has been with the School of Electrical Engineering, Purdue University, where he is currently Professor of Electrical Engineering. His current research interests include fuzzy systems and neuro-fuzzy control, sensor fusion and integration, and intelligent robotic assembly systems.

Dr. Lee is an IEEE Fellow. He was an IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Visitor in 1983-1986, the Organizer and Chairman of the 1988 NATO Advanced Research Workshop on Sensor-Based Robots: Algorithms and Architectures, and the Secretary of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society in 1988-1990. Currently, he is Vice-President for Technical Affairs and an AdCom member of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society. He has authored or co-authored more than 35 journal articles and over 70 conferences papers in the robotics areas, and one graduate textbook on robotics.
