Thu 3 Mar 94, 1:30, WeH 4601 Spatial Reasoning in Rats: the Sense of Direction and Place Hank Wan Neurophysiological studies show that rodents have internal representations for sense of place and direction. I describe a theory of coupled mechanisms for spatial reasoning using such representations. This theory is applied to tasks in which animals were trained to find reward in perceptually ambiguous environments. I show how the model produces adaptive behavior similar to those of the animals.
