Subject: Update: Mach related mailing lists Date: June, 1995 Author: J. Mark Stevenson The mach3 mailing list is now maintained by the Open Software Foundation. To add/remove youself from that list, send mail to "mach3-request@osf.org". The addresses "mach3-request@cs.cmu.edu" and "mach3@cs.cmu.edu" are forwarded to the corresponding addresses at "osf.org". "machi386" is unchanged at this time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Mach related mailing lists Date: Oct, 1994 Author: Mary Thompson -------------------------- mach@cs.cmu.edu: Mail to this address now receives a pre-recorded message that points you to other methods of finding answers to Mach related questions. mach3@cs.cmu.edu: Has over 200 addresses many of which are redistribution lists. If you are supping Mach 3.0 sources and building them you should be on this list. All new releases are posted to this list. More complicated technical questions can be addressed to this list, after you have exhausted your own knowlegde and ability to understand the sources. I frequently suggest people their send question to this list when I don't know who to forward it to. mach3-request@local-site: All mail to this address now is automatically replied to with a message on how to use Majordomo to subscribe and unsubscribe from mach mailing lists. If you are receiving this mail via a local redistribution list this should go to your local administrator. machi386@cs.cmu.edu This is a distribution list which includes most of the people who are using Mach on the i386 platform. This is the best forum to ask about i386 hardware specific questions. comp.os.mach: This is a useful way to reach lots of Mach users and people building applications on Mach. Both the mach3 and machi386 mailing lists are managed by the majordomo mail management program written by D. Brent Chapman. This will allow you to subscribe or unsubscribe yourself without any interventaion by the list owner. Please note that the name of the server is majordomo-mach@cs.cmu.edu rather than just majordomo. To subscribe send mail to majordomo-mach@cs.cmu.edu with the following line in the body of the message subscribe mach3 and/or subscribe machi386 This will subscribe your "reply to:" or "from:" address from the list To unsubcribe send mail to majordomo-mach@cs.cmu.edu with the following line in the body of the message unsubscribe mach3 and/or unsubscribe machi386 This will attempt to remove your "reply to:" or "from:" address from the list If this fails you can send the request "who mach3" or "who machi386" to find out what the list has as your address. Then you can send unsubscribe mach3 username@site or unsubscribe machi386 username@site More information about the operation of majordomo can be obtained by sending the message "help" to majordomo-mach@cs.cmu.edu. Multiple requests can be made in one mail message as long as they are on separate lines. Mary Thompson Project Mach Distribution Manager
