Ratler

Ratler

Ratler
Testbed:

The Ratler is a four wheeled, skid steered robot with a two segment body. The body segments are connected so that they can pitch independantly allowing all four wheels to contact the ground on uneven terrain. The vehicle was on loan from Sandia National Laboratories as a testbed for navigation software. Ratler was disassembled and shipped home to Sandia late in October 1996. Current lunar rover development is being done with the Nomad body.

The knowledge and experience gained with Ratler will aid in the development of Nomad, and most of the navigation software is expected to be ported to the new rover with few major changes.
