SIMPLANNER [Onaindía, Sapena, Sebastia, MarzalOnaindía et al.2001] is a forward search planner using a relaxed plan heuristic. The heuristic evaluation uses separate relaxed plans for each of the top level goals, combining them to identify a useful first action to apply from the current state. This variant on the idea of relaxed plans appears to represent a reinforcement of the notion of helpful actions developed in FF, where actions that are selected in the first layer of a relaxed Graphplan-style plan are favoured as appropriate candidates for the next step in a plan.
