Showers and thunderstorms over southern Florida produced more than a third of an inch of rain (.38) at Fort Myers during the six hour period ending at 1 PM (EST). Showers and thunderstorms produced another third of an inch (.35) at Fort Myers between 1 PM and 7 PM. Skies were generally overcast from the upper half of the Mississippi valley through the Great Lakes region and Ohio Valley to North Carolina and the middle Atlantic coast states. Tavernier FL reported an overnight low of 77 degrees. *** rainfall records for March *** In southern California...San Luis Obispo was deluged with 16.48 inches of rain last month...shattering their previous record for March of 12.82 inches which was established in 1991. San Luis Obispo has been drenched with 41.69 inches of rain in the past nine months (since the first of July in 1994)...almost exactly double the normal rainfall for that period of 21.44 inches. Spokane WA was soaked with 3.81 inches of rain last month ...making it their wettest March of record. The previous record of 3.75 inches was established in 1950. March was unseasonably wet for most parts of the country west of the Rockies...but relatively dry for many parts of the nation east of the Rockies.
