\section{Conclusion}
\label{conc}

We have presented MacFS, a portable Macintosh file system library, and
described its design, implementation, and performance. We
demonstrated the versatility of the library interface by implementing
a user level library and a Unix VFS on top of it. In addition, we
commented on the design of the Macintosh Hierarchical File system data
structures. Although we feel that the complexities of MHFS metadata
makes a maximally concurrent implementation difficult, our performance
measurements show that MHFS can achieve quite high data read/write
performance.
