TRAVEL DIRECTIONS: Airport, Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon, Andrew Consortium Andrew Consortium School of Computer Science Carnegie Mellon University 5000 Forbes Avenue Pittsburgh, PA 15213-3891 Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), the University of Pittsburgh, the Holiday Inn @ University Center and the Hampton Inn are all in the "Oakland" area of Pittsburgh. All are within 15 minutes or less walking distance from one another. ________________________________________________ Drive from Airport to Oakland area of Pittsburgh Leave airport and turn left onto parkway toward Pittsburgh. Do not take ANY exit from the PARKWAY until AFTER you pass through the Fort Pitt Tunnel. You are nearing the tunnel and city when you pass the Greentree Exit and go down a long grade. As you approach the tunnel, take the middle or left-hand lanes to enter. As you leave the tunnel, take a second to admire our city's FRONT DOOR! Follow across the Fort Pitt Bridge, and take the sharp right exit ramp at the end of the bridge, (onto I-376 eastbound). CAUTION!!! This ramp and the following merge lanes can be DANGEROUS!!! Stay in the right lane on 376, take Oakland Exit 5 which becomes Forbes Avenue. At end of ramp merge onto Forbes, which is one way. Past the Oakland business district is the University of Pittsburgh's Cathedral of Learning tower located at Bigelow Boulevard. Just beyond it is Bellefield Avenue where Forbes becomes a two-way street. ________________________________________ Drive from Oakland to CMU Campus Parking Follow "Airport to Oakland" directions. Then....continue in right lanes of Forbes Avenue past University of Pittsburgh tower. Forbes switches to two way traffic at Bellefield Avenue so stay in the right-hand lane (CAUTION!!! left-hand lanes head into oncoming traffic-you 'gotta love those Pittsburgh traffic engineers) following straight ahead on Forbes. Pass Carnegie Museum and traffic light on Craig Street. Cross bridge. Pass next traffic light at Morewood. Turn right into the driveway entrance to the campus parking garage (beside construction site of new University Center). Pull up to the closed parking lot gate. Use your visitor's permit or ask the parking office the one reserved for you. If all else fails, there is meter parking available in the garage and on various sites around campus. After 4pm, parking EVERYWHERE on campus, including the garage, is FREE. _________________________________ Drive from Oakland to Hampton Inn Follow "Airport to Oakland" directions until you are on Forbes Avenue. Go just 1/4 miles ahead on Forbes to the first stop light and turn right onto Craft Avenue. Go 1/2 block ahead and turn right onto Hamlet Street where the Hampton Inn is located. A shuttle van operates between the Hampton Inn and CMU about every 30 minutes from early morning until late at night. _________________________________ Drive from Oakland to Holiday Inn Follow "Airport to Oakland" directions. Then....continue in left lanes of Forbes Avenue past University of Pittsburgh tower. Forbes switches to two-way traffic at Bellefield Avenue so stay in the left-hand lanes which turn onto Bellefield. Follow one block ahead to Fifth Avenue, make a left onto middle of Fifth, (CAUTION!!! stay out of far left lane on Fifth which is oncoming Bus Only Lane-Pittsburgh traffic engineers strike again). Maneuver into furthest right-hand lane and go two short blocks. At the second traffic light on Fifth, turn right onto Lytton Avenue. The hotel is located in the middle of the block on the right. _______________________________ Driving From Oakland To Airport Take Fifth Avenue past the Hospitals and Carlow College. Turn left onto Craft Street with traffic headed to Parkway 376. Proceed two blocks and turn right onto The Boulevard of the Allies. After 1/2 mile, take the right fork for I-376 West. Follow the signs for 376/Airport which will take you through the Fort Pitt Tunnel and onto the Parkway West. Stay straight on this roadway, and follow name changes from I-376 to I-279 to 60 North.
