In article <3h2pc7$2kj@lyra.csx.cam.ac.uk> etg10@cl.cam.ac.uk (Edmund Grimley-Evans) writes:

have a fair chance in a political argument with Germans. Therefore
Germans would be at a massive disadvantage if English were to be made
the only official language in any EU institution. I hope that they
understand this and are willing to resist any such move by any means
available; they can count on my support at least.

Unfortunately most Germans tend to overestimate their knowledge of
English. Maybe because they were never involved in any political
argument with native speakers.
