We tried a method to compress speech using wavelets and it gave good
results. It was adapted from the technique used in one paper which described
an algorithm to code images using wavelets.

the paper was:
M. Antonini, I. Daubechies et al,"Image Coding using wavelet transform", in
IEEE
Transac. on Image Processing, April 1992, Vol 1, #2
