A coleague in our computer labs is suffering from RSI, a compalin that
basically makes his wrists very painful and makes typing almost impossible.

I have written an 'xkeyboard' application, that displays a keyboard on an Xterm
and allows mouse movements to be interpreted as keypresses. We wish to evolve
this program into a speech recognition system. We have suitable hardware to
produce sound samples, an Alpha machine to provide cycles, and pretty good
word prediction algorithms. What we are missing is some _simple_ voice recognition
software. Even something capable of recognising discrete utterences from a vocabulary of
50 words would be extremely useful (for keycaps + commands).

Does anyone have, or know of, a suitable public domain program? A prefect system
would take a sample, a small dictionary and return the best 'n' guesses. I'm sure
many people have built such a system as a starting point for more elaborate projects -
any chance of giving us the sources?

Thanks

Rich.
