This is a good comment.

In a speech codec there is a three-way tradeoff between quality,
cost and bandwidth. For example, for telephony applications it is
desirable to have close to toll-quality at rates of around 4-8Kb/s.
We think that within these constraints, our system is quite cost
effective. Consider also that ~50% of the processor computational
power is available for other tasks.

Ongoing research at CVI will produce lower rate coders. The rate
will be alterable in real-time.

Our system comes with full source-code and documentation.
