I'm working on putting together a Frequently Asked Posting for comp.speech.
I hope that it will be helpful for newcomers and regulars alike.

I've tried to come up with a list of useful questions which are included
below. If you think you can answer any of them, or if you have any
suggestions for new or modified questions then please email or post.
The idea is to keep the answers brief and where possible to provide a
reference to a book, or article, or ftp site, or whatever with lots more
detailed information.

Lots of useful information has already been posted to the group. It would
be great if it could be distilled into the FAQ.

I expect it will take a few drafts to knock into shape.

(FAQ means "Frequently Asked Questions")

  ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anybody who is willing to contribute any question or
information, please email me; if it is relevant,
I will incorporate it. But: Please format your contribution
appropriately and keep it brief so that I can just drop it in.
  ------------------------------------------------------------------------

The purpose is to provide basic information for individuals who are new
to the field of speech technology or are just beginning to read this group.

The FAQ is not meant to discuss any topic exhaustively. It will hopefully
provide readers with pointers on where to find useful information.
