Evolutionary Algorithms and Automatic Target Recognition

Session Chair: Bradley C. Wallet, Naval Surface Warfare Center
(bwallet@nswc.navy.mil)

This call for papers is for a special session of the Automatic Target
Recognition VII conference of SPIE's AeroSense Symposium to be held
20-25 April 1997 in Orlando, Florida USA.

Automatic target recognition and assisted object recognition are fields
in which a considerable amount of work needs to be done to meet current
and future needs. Evolutionary algorithms such as genetic algorithms,
evolutionary strategies, and genetic programming offer some
interesting possibilities within these areas. This session will cover
applications of all forms of evolutationary algorithms to problems of
interest to the ATR community. Possible applications include but are
not necessarily limited to the following:

Classifier construction
Target detection, segmentation, and recognition
Target tracking
Optical flow
Image registration
Feature construction
Feature selection and dimensionality reduction
Clutter characterization and reduction
Evolving computational intelligence for ATR
Adaptive ATR
Coevolutionary approaches to detection/deception

Submission information: Contributed papers for this session should be
submitted to Automatic Target Recognition VII at AeroSense 97. Full
information on Automatic Target Recognition VII and the proper
submission information can be found on the following web page:
