                      *** CALL FOR PAPERS - AUV 96 ***

SYMPOSIUM ON AUTONOMOUS UNDERWATER VEHICLE TECHNOLOGY

June 3-6 1996, Monterey California USA

The IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society (OES) is sponsoring a Symposium on
Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) Technology to be held at the Hyatt Regency
Hotel in Monterey California on June 3-6, 1996. The objectives of the AUV 96
Symposium are to disseminate knowledge regarding technological advances in
underwater robotics, to show both current state of the art and technology
shortfalls, and to provide a discussion forum for new ideas in AUVs.

TOPICS

The Symposium will focus on the AUTONOMOUS OPERATION OF UNDERWATER VEHICLES.
Related topics include (but are not limited to):

Sensors and Multi-Sensor Fusion Communications and Telemetry
Navigation, Rendezvous & Docking Imaging Techniques and Systems
Modeling and Simulation Methods Mission Control & Software Architectures
Energy and Propulsion Systems Autonomous Manipulation
Vehicle Design and Control New Concept Vehicles-Mine Countermeasures
  Biological Models Oceanographic Sampling Networks
  Multiple Cooperating Vehicles Mission Scenarios

The Symposium will include Tutorials (June 3), Video Proceedings, Internet
MBone audio/video multicast, visits to area technical sites including the
Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) AUV Test Facility, NPS Virtual Reality
Laboratory, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI)
Laboratories at Moss Landing. Test tank, pool and pierside facilities will be
available for AUV demonstrations. Other area research centers include
Stanford University and NASA Ames Research Center. Tourist attractions
include the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Carmel, Pebble Beach and Big Sur.

ABSTRACTS

Prospective authors are invited to submit proposed abstracts (300-500 words)
by electronic mail. Sending hardcopy & ASCII file backup by mail is optional.
Include a paragraph containing title, author(s) names (one author named as
point of contact), addresses, phone and fax. Acceptance is by committee
review of abstracts. Faxed abstracts will not be considered. Authors must
describe the problem addressed, solutions obtained, and importance of the
contribution to AUVs. Questions are always welcome. Send abstracts to:
