Please help,

Im am doing my final year project on neural networks and have
a couple of problems.

1> Are there any algorithms that will give me a rough estimate of the
size of network required for a given task ?? Any references at all
   would be helpful.

2> I have a list of different categories as possible inputs - one of
which, will be the actual input. Is the best way of encoding this
one neuron for each category ?? Again any references or help in
   general would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

John Hammond

By the way, could you reply by e-mail if you can help.
