                                   ICPTAT'95

                          1st International Conference
              on the Practice and Theory of Automated Timetabling

                Tuesday 29th August - Friday 1st September 1995

                        Napier University, Edinburgh, UK


                                CALL FOR PAPERS


This conference will serve as a forum for an international community of
researchers on all aspects of computer-aided timetable generation.  The themes
of the conference include (but are not limited to):

   o  Techniques, including: Genetic Algorithms
                             Constraint Logic Programming
                             Simulated Annealing
                             Graph Colouring
                             Operational Research
                             Expert systems
   o  Complexity issues
   o  Relationship with other scheduling problems
   o  Implementations
   o  Experiences
   o  Distributed timetabling systems
   o  Interactive vs batch timetabling


Submissions:

Authors are invited to submit papers describing significant, original and
unpublished work.  Four (hard) copies of an extended abstract (around 2000
words) should be submitted by 31st March 1995 to the Conference Administrator
at the address below.
We would appreciate it if you could also send a version via e-mail in
PostScript or plain text (in addition to the hard copies).
We expect the length of the final papers to be no more than 6000 words.
All submissions should include a cover page which states clearly:

             (1) the names of the authors
             (2) the contact person and address
             (3) e-mail address (if you have one)
             (4) Keywords

The keywords should mention the relevant conference themes listed above
(if this is possible).
All accepted papers will appear in a refereed conference proceedings.
We expect to select the best papers to publish as a book.


Deadlines:

   extended abstract submissions               March 31st 1995
   notification of acceptance                  May    5th 1995 (at the latest)
   full papers due                             June   5th 1995

The Edinburgh WWW page (http://www.cs.ucl.ac.uk/misc/uk/edinburgh.html) states:

"Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, is one of Europe's most handsome cities.
The beauty of its setting and its predominantly stone buildings, allied with
its intellectual traditions, have justly earned it the title of `Athens of the
North'. "

Furthermore, this conference will be taking place during the World-famous
Edinburgh Festival, so the whole city will be laying on entertainment!
Accommodation will be arranged by Napier University.
The conference and proceedings will be in English.
