I taught an introductory AI course this year for the first time.
Although I didn't want to emphasis programming, I did want the
students to be able to write simple lisp functions and input for
various search engines, theorem provers, and such that we used in the
class. I taught very basic Lisp in two two-hour evening sessions in
the first week of class and that was enough to get everyone
bootstrapped. These students were all very experienced programmers,
though; just ignorant of Lisp.
