	Nested Relational Database Management System: Kappa-II

1. Environment
1.1 Kappa-II
    Machine & OS:
	PSI-II, SIMPOS Version 7 or 8
	PSI-III, SIMPOS Version A22
    Disk:
	SIMPOS File: 12 mega bytes (temporarily for installation)
		      6 mega bytes
	Logical Volume: minimum 1 mega bytes
    Main memory utilization:
	1 mega words

1.2 Kvif
  (1) A client program on X/Motif
	An UNIX machine installed Openware/Motif Ver 1.1 in /usr/openware.
  (2) An interface program between a client and Kappa-II
	PSI-III and SIMPOS A22
  (3) A protein database (PIR, Prosite)
	Logical volume: 80 mega bytes
	SIMPOS file: 45 mega bytes (temporarily for restoring)

2. Installation
2.1 Kappa-II
  (1) Transfer source files as text containing kanji characters to PSI.
	kappa2>init>*.*		-> >sys>kappa>*.*
	kappa2>CATALOG.COM	-> >sys>user>kappa>CATALOG.COM
	kappa2>login.com	-> >sys>user>kappa>login.com
	kappa2>kernel>*.*	-> >sys>user>kappa>kernel>*.*
	kappa2>utility>*.*	-> >sys>user>kappa>utility>*.*
	kappa2>user_if>*.*	-> >sys>user>kappa>user_if>*.*
	kappa2>tool>*.*		-> >sys>user>kappa>tool>*.*
  (2) Transfer font files as binary to PSI.
	kappa2>font>*.*	-> >sys>font>*.*
  (3) Catalogue source files.
      - Login to SIMPOS as user "kappa" to validate transferred login.com.
      - Select the item, "Execute"  of a librarian, and type "CATALOG.COM".
      - Save templates.
  (4) See an install manual of Kappa, and configure the system.

2.2 Kvif

A client program on X/Motif:
  Type "make" in kvif/c directory.

  Edit an X environment file 'Kvif' as you like.
  Remember to describe the machine name in which you use Kappa 
  at 'Kappa.hostName'.

An interface program between a client and Kappa-II:
  (1) Transfer source files as text containing kanji characters to PSI.
	kvif>esp>*.*	-> >sys>user>kappa>kvif>*.*
  (2) Catalogue following files sequentially at the package name 'gip',
      and save templates.
	(a) >sys>user>kappa>kvif>motif.esp
	(b) >sys>user>kappa>kvif>retrieve2.esp
	(c) >sys>user>kappa>kvif>split3.esp
	(d) >sys>user>kappa>kvif>kap_serv.esp

A protein database:
  (1) Transfer unloaded files as binary to PSI.
	kvif>data>*.*	-> >sys>user>kappa>*.*
  (2) Load the files by Load/Unload Utility of Kappa.
	>sys>user>kappa>pir_gen01.luu
	>sys>user>kappa>pir_fea01.luu

	>sys>user>kappa>seq_map01.luu

    Storage size of the protein database:
	Control area:	  500 pages (2 mega bytes)
	Index area:	4,000 pages (16 mega bytes)
	Record area:	8,000 pages (32 mega bytes)
