Of course.
Yet I have found it *much* more useful than English. I studied German for
five years, and have travelled through Germany, Switzerland and Austria
on several occasions; yet I have made deeper friendships and learned more
insightful details about these cultures by means of Esperanto than by means
of German.
A tool need not be the *only* one for the job to be the *best* one.
