Latin habere vs. German haben "to have" (English cognate)

There is a Latin cognate to the Germanic words: capere "to take".

So there is an interesting pair of IE roots:

*ghabh- > English "to give", Latin habere "to have"
*kap- > English "to have", Latin capere "to take"

These similar-looking roots may well have some pre-Indo-European
common ancestor.
