Well, I confess I have no idea what the speech of the area is like.
What are it's important features?

In fact, can someone recommend a good technical book on BE dialects and regional
modified standards? (By technical I mean uses IPA and is intended for someone 
who can deal with phonological detail.)

I realized after I posted the article, that I had presumed you meant
intrusive r rather than linking r.  Is that correct?  The only variety
of Eng. (that I'm aware of) that deletes final written r before a following
vowel is SE Coastal Am. Eng.
