I think it was trying to cover so many subjects that it didn't cover any
particular one very well.  It certainly gave the average viewer no grounds
for evaluating the various competing claims offered.  Interesting to see
what some of these folks (Greenberg, Labov, Renfrew, etc.) look like, though.
