Hi,

I am interested in finding some book designed for Japanese speakers
and writers of English as a foreign language dealing with the
following points:

	1) Use of the definite and indefinite article ("a" and "the")

	2) Distinguishing singular and plural (especially in
	exceptional cases)

	3) Usage of countable and uncountable nouns

and other such issues [[[[which many will recognise as being the
problems for Japanese learners of English as a foreign language]]]].

I need this because I have to correct Japanese people's written
English sometimes, and I find it extremely hard to explain to them why
they are wrong (i.e. being a native speaker I don't really know the
ins and outs of English grammar very well and I would like to be able
to find a book with a good technical explanation to show them)

Books in either Japanese or all-English are ok. The best thing is
also to have a book with some exercises that I can use to teach
people.

Please let me know by e-mail (ben@theory.kek.jp,
bullock@cpt1.dur.ac.uk, KEKVAX::BEN on DECNET) if you know of a good
book.

If anyone else is interested in this, also please drop me a line, and
I will post a summary of the e-mail I get.

Thanks very much in advance.

Happy new year.
