I have seen requests for extended abstracts in CFPs of various
AI conferences. I have some interest in submitting but I'm not
really sure what an extended abstract is. For example, one
conference I'm considering requests a 2000 word extended abstract.

What is an extended abstract? Does it include figures, diagrams,
examples, references, etc. like a conference paper or is it something
else.

An example or two of an extended abstract (no matter what the topic)
would be helpful I think.

So anyway, I'm new to this paper-writing stuff so I'm not too sure about
some of the basics. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Tom
