You are of course right, I did not express myself correctly. I should have 
said that "passing the test" is our _evidence_ for understanding. However, 
since this is basically an only evidence, we use a shorthand notation 
"passing the test" = "understanding". The same way "passing TT" is our 
evidence for intelligence, obviously imperfect evidence.
