Xiaodong,

I compiled it (the Dejong example program) with Borland C++ 4.0 for
Windows without any problem. The result: spectacular program. Five star
rating. (Also, the author says he compiled under Borland C++ 3.0, plus
a few Unix systems). For people with other compilers, e.g. Microsoft, the
only suggestion in the manual is to look in the code for conditional
compiliation statements (#IF ...), as these are where platform - specific
code is to be found.

I don't know what netiquette is, after all, the author is doing it for
free. But wish he'd store a Windows .exe at his ftp site. But then he'd
get requests for an OS/2 .exe, then .exe's or whatever they are called for
each Unix platform. I could send my Windows .exe to anyone who asks, but I
won't -- too much hassle after 1 or 2 times. There must be a better way. I
don't have any ftp site or other repository to put it, or I would. I am
expecting to upload it to Compuserve AIEXPERT forum in 3-4 days (I just
sent a note to the forum's Sysop asking about uploading it, and plan to
include the compiled Dejong.exe, for anyone with a Compuserve account).
The Dejong.exe file is 404K (156K when pkzipped) -- per my memory.

Another possibility is a mailing list. I think this program deserves a
mailing list!, but again hate to trouble the author. I don't know how
to start a mailing list. The mailing list could include any tips on
how to compile with different compilers. Examples from users who did some
programming to customize it for a special kind of problem, and so on.
I'm willing to administer a mailing list (say for a 6 month term) but don't
know anything about how to go about it. I will be getting deep into the
internals of Sugal very shortly, trying to customize it for a particular
problem of mine.

Anyway, if anyone of you Internet veterans have any suggestions for setting
up a mailing list, where .exe's could be stored, etc., without burdening
the author, please let me know.

Jim Larson
