 Yes, a short lifespan means faster adations. Selection takes place one time 
each generation and species in a dynamic environment could benefit from a 
fast lifecycle. The selection pessure could be that the faster the specimen 
manages to raise its offspring, the better. Complex lifeforms seems to have 
longer lifespans than simple ones as well. Species with long lifespan aren't 
as numerous as those with a short lifespan either.
